Review: The 5th Wave by Rick Yancey

My thoughts: 

Pretty much everyone in the blogosphere and the booktube world has been absolutely raving about this book so when the opportunity to read The 5th Wave presented itself I knew I had to read it.  I have also read The Monstrumologist which is pretty good so I had to give The 5th Wave a chance. 

It started out really good and just grabbed my attention.  I was so interested in just learning about what had happened during the first few waves. Yancey did a great job of creating a whole bunch of build up to what I thought would be some huge massive 5th way that was about to hit.  But then when we actually discover what the 5th wave actually is I was kind of let down a little bit.  I was also thrown off a little bit by the changing perspective because I didn't realize that the perspective had change and I was a little confused.  To me, changing perspective is really hard to pull off and Yancey did a pretty great job.  

There was so much hype around this book that I really expected it to blow my socks off! I still thought it was pretty good I just didn't think it was absolutely this best book that I've read this year.

My thoughts:

I love this series! Love, love, love this series! I was somewhat of a late comer to the Luxen because I can honestly say that their original covers turned me away. After multiple bloggers told me to get on it I felt like I had no choice but to finally pick it up. And I am so glad that I did! When I was around middle school/early high school I really loved that show called Roswell! Ever since then UFO's, Roswell, NM and stories about aliens have always intrigued me.  So for me, the Lux series is definitely great because it has that Roswell feel!

What really makes the Lux series exciting to read is that there is always something going on! Some kind of adventure, mysterious plot development and very suspicious behavior by some sketchy characters! I'm always on the edge of my seat! No doubt Onyx had all this and more! Since Katy has developed some of Daemon's alien power, her life is crazier than ever and now a new guy at entered the picture vying for her attention.  I would say it's a love triangle but, honestly, Daemon has no competition! I knew this new guy was sketchy all along and that it was just a matter of time before Katy admitted that she's in love with Daemon.

I don't know what it is about Daemon but he is one of the hottest guys I've ever read! Every time he calls Katy "kitten" I just MELT!!! I love every word he says and that he's not afraid to admit that he's in love with Katy! Even though his temper is a little off-putting, he is still in my top 10 book boyfriends!

I'm telling you, if you have not read this series yet, you need to get on it! It's one of my favorites right now and has also made Jennifer L. Armentrout one of my favorite authors!

Unless you count the part where I killed her.

Sixteen-year-old Alison has been sectioned in a mental institute for teens, having murdered the most perfect and popular girl at school. But the case is a mystery: no body has been found, and Alison's condition is proving difficult to diagnose. Alison herself can't explain what happened: one minute she was fighting with Tori-the next she disintegrated. Into nothing. But that's impossible. Right?

My thoughts:

I was completely unaware of what I was getting myself into when I started reading Ultraviolet. Not only was it a mystery, but it was a huge dive into the world of psychology. Have you ever wondered if numbers have personalities or if you could taste words or see sounds? I would have to say that the mixing of the senses was my favorite part of the book. The way that the main character would explain how different words would taste different and how numbers had personalities.

I'm not going to give away any spoilers or tell you how it ended, but I was completely surprised and I still haven't decided if it was good or bad. I was so caught off guard that I'm not sure how I feel about it. If the ending could be changed to be a little different I think this book would be absolutely amazing.

Not many books shed light on those who live on the margins of society and suffer from mental illnesses. I really give R.J. Anderson props for telling a story about teens in a mental institution and showing their perspective on life.
