Follow Friday (31)

Follow Friday is a really fun way to make new blogger friends and promote your blog in the process! This weekly meme is hosted by Alison Can Read and Rachel @Parajunkee.

Q: This Sunday in the U.S. is Mother's Day. In celebration, what are some of your favorite books with strong mother/child relationships?

A: When I actually sit down and think about it, I'm having a really hard time finding a YA book that has a strong mother/child relationship.  I've noticed a lot of books have absent parents or the main characters are off to boarding school.  The only book that I can think of off the top of my head is Divergent by Veronica Roth.  I really enjoyed the relationship between Tris and her mother.

Of course, I can't do a post about mother/child relationships and not talk about Little House on the Prairie. It was one of my favorite series growing up and they're such good, wholesome books for younger kids!

Tris' mom is awesome. Especially at the end. Reminds me of Harry Potters mom kind of. I'm following you on twitter now. Thanks for stopping by my blog today!

Oh I've actually wanted to put down Divergent but never thought of Tris and her mum! LOL. Great answer! I definitely agree that Tris and her mum shared such a strong bond! I can't believe she () in the end!

Thanks for stopping by my blog I'm following back!

My mom read the Little House on the Prarie books to me when I was little :)

I've also noticed the common absent parent phenomenon in YA fiction. I think it is mostly because if the main characters' parents were around they would not be out fighting/dating unsuitable people, vampires, werewolves and the like.

Here's my Follow Friday!

You know, I didn't even think of Tris, but the relationship between her and her mother is different from most YA novels.. Thanks for visiting my blog :) *New Follower*

Hi & thanks for following our blog :)

Like you I find it hard to think of a positive mother/child relationship in YA but Tris and her mum is a good example!
